Fighting Unreason with Reason
Welcome back to Fighting Unreason with Reason. This issue, we’ll look at the new “election security” measures states are enacting after the 2020 election, as well as the ways I’ve been working to fight unreason with reason. I’ve also collected a few great resources from others that help illustrate why we find ourselves communicating with such anger and rancor.
FINDING REASON IN UNREASONABLE TIMES: Election Security or Voter Suppression?
My article this month centers on the 19 states that have passed laws restricting access to voting. Most of these measures were passed in the name of “election security,” but I point out that historically, these types of voting laws are nothing but thinly-veiled attempts at voter suppression.

THE ROAD TO REASON
I recently sat down with Bryan Wish, the host of The One Away Show, to discuss why I began my journey to fight unreason with reason. I talk about being at a cocktail party, surrounded by some of the smartest and successful business leaders in the world, and being disappointed that they treated the topic of politics as a third rail. You can listen to the episode here.
When I began my journey to determine what was wrong with our political discourse, one of my primary goals was to encourage Americans to #FightUnreasonWithReason. What does that mean, exactly?
I shared my thoughts on this topic with Ralph Brogden on a recent episode of Rebelpreneur Radio. Listen to the full interview HERE.
NOTES FROM THE EXHAUSTED MAJORITY
While Republicans are taking a beating over recent discoveries suggesting the Jan. 6 insurrection was part of a coordinated plan to overturn the 2020 Presidential election, not all of them are sitting idly by.
In a Wall Street Journal op ed earlier this month, former George W. Bush senior advisor Karl Rove admonished Republicans who’ve either bought into the false narrative that these violent acts of sedition were mere protests—or stood mute while their colleagues rattled on.
During his time in Washington, Rove was no stranger to scandal and partisan devilry, so taking such a strong stance against the party he’s loudly been a member of for half a century is worthy of attention.
How can the country put Jan. 6 in the rearview mirror?
Rove says it’s by putting country ahead of party, a tactic that I—and our founders—would welcomingly embrace.
“There can be no soft-pedaling what happened and no absolution for those who planned, encouraged, and aided the attempt to overthrow our democracy,” Rove writes. “Love of country demands nothing less. That’s true patriotism.”
